I am Director of Legal at the Pension Protection Fund, and an active lead in our DEI activities – I co-lead our Race Action Group and founded our Working Families’ Alliance. Having grown up in a village in Essex where we were the only brown family for miles around, I have become used to being and feeling different, and for that difference to not always be valued. Racial justice has been an important part of my life – my first legal job at the Law Commission involved working on a review of the double jeopardy laws following the murder of Stephen Lawrence, which led to legislation that ultimately secured convictions. I am passionate about taking actions to address structural and systemic inequalities both in our industry and more broadly. Outside work I’m a parent to three young children and on my own journey with supporting neurodiverse individuals within my family. I am also a trustee of Multitude of Voyces, a small music charity that aims to positively address underrepresentation in classical music, and I am a member of Cricket Scotland’s “Conduct In Sport” Panel which was established in response to an independent review on racism in Scottish cricket. I am delighted to join the steering group, both to learn from the wealth of experience in the group and to bring forward my own insights.
