Testimonials
As a second-year business and marketing student at Northumbria University in Newcastle I notice the geographic barrier in the opportunities available to students in the north then I discovered Skills in Finance which offers virtual career sessions for various financial services employers. These sessions were incredibly beneficial providing valuable industry insights and the chance to ask questions directly to professionals I highly encourage other students to attend as these sessions are both easily accessible and extremely useful

This presentation delivers a high-level overview of public market asset classes. The session begins with equities, defining the nature of equity securities before comparing the active and passive investment approaches. It outlines the primary drivers of equity performance, specifically focusing on earnings growth and price-earnings multiples. The focus then shifts to fixed income securities, describing the distinct characteristics of government, corporate, and emerging market bonds; this section also includes a high-level description of how corporate bonds are at times packaged into structured transactions. The presentation concludes with a reference to derivatives, alternatives and to sustainability principles.
The asset management industry aims to invest money to help people, companies and charities meet their goals. Those goals could include growing the value of the portfolio and / or providing an income, perhaps while also considering the environmental impact of their investments.

Every time you buy a share or a fund unit, you don’t actually hold the asset. You hold a claim on a chain of intermediaries.
Tokenisation is changing that relationship by putting ownership directly on-chain. In this talk I’ll explain what that shift looks like in practice, using real examples from building physically-backed tokenised commodity products, and explore what it means for the future of asset management, market access, and the kinds of roles that will exist in finance over the next decade.
