Our words have the power to shape how we communicate, connect, and create change. They can help build understanding and inclusion, but they can also unintentionally reinforce barriers and inequalities.

Inclusion in Finance and LGBT Great hosted an interactive session exploring the evolving landscape of LGBTQ+ inclusive language. The webinar provided practical guidance on using language thoughtfully, navigating important conversations, and fostering a workplace culture built on understanding and respect.

The session covered:

  • Defining and embracing inclusive language: Understanding the importance of using accurate and respectful language across LGBTQ+ identities.
  • Trans and non-binary inclusive language practices: Exploring practical approaches to pronouns, terminology, and creating more inclusive communication environments.
  • Bridging the generational gap: Sharing strategies for encouraging open and respectful conversations about LGBTQ+ inclusion across generations.
  • Navigating reclaimed terms responsibly: Exploring the history and appropriate use of reclaimed language, including terms such as “queer.”
  • Learning from other languages: Considering examples from languages with different grammatical structures and approaches to inclusivity.
